Existing energy resources are struggling to cope with the current energy requirements. It is therefore, necessary to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases emissions in integrated steel industries. The yield of coking by-products is one of the key ways to achieve these goals. This review article is focused on history of the by-products such as coal tar, coal tar pitch, ammonia

Refined coal tar pitch (RCTP) and conductive graphene were used as raw materials to prepare the mesophase pitch (MP) by pyrolysis and the forming mechanism of MP was also inferred. Polarizing microscope, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and chemical kinetic analysis were used to characterize and analyze the effects

Toward Green Battery Cells: Perspective on Materials and
SGs are typically prepared from precursor materials such as petroleum coke, often mixed with coal‐tar pitch, using a high temperature treatment (2500–3000 C). In the first step, the precursor is transformed into an intermediate material by calcination at 800–1200 C, i.e., into a soft carbon. [ 19 ]

Thin films that electronically switch between optical states are of interest for a number of applications including dynamic windows, switchable sunglasses, and optical gating devices. We report thin films based on the reversible electrodeposition of Cu and Au on tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) electrodes modified with Pt nanoparticles that switch between transparent and opaque states.

Preparation of petroleum
Spinnable mesophase pitch precursor containing more than 98% mesophase content was successfully prepared from FCC-DO (fluid catalytic cracking-decant oil) without hydrogenation or catalytic reaction. The preparation method involved thermal condensation, vacuum treatment, and annealing treatment. Petroleum mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers are produced by melt spinning of pitch precursors

Coal tar pitch, polyacrylonitrile (PAN), and lawn grass are examples of starting materials used. The shape of the catalyst may have a larger role in the morphology of graphene nanosheet formation. Graphene nanosheets can be transferred to different substrates

The material uses as a hybrid sealer base or binder comprising a blend of pitch, asphaltic material and cut-back oil as a partial or complete replacement for pure coal tar materials. Driveway sealer (an emulsion of clay, water and binder) made with this hybrid binder has significantly better durability and color than like materials made with a binder of asphalt and cut-back oil.

Coal Tar Creosote (Cicads 62, 2004)
The concentration of airborne particles originating from coal tar or coal tar pitch has been monitored as CTPV. This is also known as benzene-soluble matter (BSM) or cyclohexane-soluble matter (CSM). The method has also been applied to creosote fumes (Markel et al., 1977; Todd Timbie, 1983).

Coal tar pitch (CTP) modified with silicon carbide nanoparticles (nSiC) was used as a carbon binder precursor for the manufacture of carbon materials. Carbon samples were prepared in the form of a composition consisting of synthetic coke, graphite and nSiC- modified CTP prior to heat treatment at temperatures from 800 C to 2800 C.

Coal tar epoxies are often promoted as combination products that provide the best of both worlds, epoxy and coal tar pitch. Rather, coal tar epoxies are better thought of as compromise products. Straight epoxies provide better adhesion to steel, and so polyamide epoxy primers are often used with coal tar epoxy topcoats, despite the fact that the coal tar epoxy can be self-priming.
